How do you celebrate Liberation Day when the only thing you’ve ever known is freedom? Or is the concept of “freedom” gradually becoming a relative term for the next-gen—available only to the happy few?
Far Out: Freedom ‘45 invites you to explore these questions together with the new generation of musicians and artists from Apeldoorn and its sister city, Burlington (Canada). During this podcast event on April 17, 2025, Apeldoorn’s liberation story will come to life through art, live music, and conversations, as we celebrate 80 years of liberation.
Because exactly 80 years ago, the Canadians were there too. On that day, they entered Apeldoorn, marking the end of the war for its residents. During the recording of the Far Out: Freedom ‘45 podcast, we’ll travel back in time to that moment—but also look ahead to the future. Celebrating freedom 80 years later is a world of difference. Or is it? And what role do artists, musicians, and writers play in remembering and celebrating 80 years of freedom? These questions spark a unique exchange between musicians, artists, and the audience, connecting Apeldoorn and Canada.
After the podcast recording, we’ll raise a glass to 80 years of freedom with a fitting drink. The evening will conclude with an interactive blend of art, music, and performance by Apeldoorn and Canadian artists, showcasing their creative POV: Celebrating Freedom, 80 Years Later.
