Only two weeks to go until one of the best festivals to discover new European music kicks off in Groningen: Eurosonic/Noorderslag.
Over the course of four days, you can explore new bands and acts at various locations throughout the city. In our podcast series Far Out, we teamed up with Groningen-based artists to look ahead to the festival. Two of the acts featured in Far Out can also be experienced live during Grunnsonic—a special platform within the ESNS program dedicated to artists from Groningen.
TAXITAXI
We’ve already talked about it with the guys from TAXITAXI: Groningen is a true music city with some of the best venues and festivals in the Netherlands. However, its remote location makes it challenging for up-and-coming bands to book gigs outside the city—prominent bookers aren’t likely to casually drop by Groningen to check out a performance. That’s why ESNS is such an important event for Groningen artists.
TAXITAXI is already steadily building a reputation as a live band beyond Groningen. And this summer, their festival schedule might just get pretty packed.
Vanity Box
The members of Vanity Box are familiar faces in Groningen’s music scene and have spent the past decade playing in a variety of local bands. Bassist Julia Bekker acknowledges that Groningen has an open music scene that actively supports emerging bands. ESNS is a major highlight for the city, and the timing couldn’t be better for Vanity Box. Last fall, they released their debut single “Strange Man/Eurydice Says,” and their first album, “Good Luck, See You Friday,” is set to drop this February.
