Last week the long expected album of psychedelic rockband King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard was released: Flying Microtonal Banana. And good news for Dutch fans: The Australian band will come this summer to the Netherlands.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is a band from Melbourne, formed in 2010. The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, flute), Ambrose Kenny Smith (synths, harmonica), Cook Craig (guitar), Joey Walker (guitar), Lucas Skinner (bass), Eric Moore (drums), and Michael Cavanagh (drums).
On this first 2017 album they’ve been experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar – for sound nerds, that means it plays in even smaller intervals than semitones, and it also means they all had to modify their instruments to be microtonal so they could play together (you can expect to hear a Turkish horn called a Zurna on the record, too).
“But in 2017 the band will release 4 more albums. One’s kinda jazzy and is a collaboration with our buddies Mild High Club. The other is kinda heavy and has some ties with Nonagon Infinity. Four and five are too far in the future to think about right now!”
