The world truly is their stage. Italian electronic jazz artist Maria Chiara Argirò and Groningen based rapper ADK both have performed on stages worldwide and have lived and worked in various locations. In the second episode of our Far Out podcast, we talk to these talented artists about the world as your stage and the city as your creative playground.

Over the years, the two artists might have crossed paths in places like London or even Groningen. For example in 2023, when Maria Chiara Argirò performed at ESNS 2023 in Groningen. The artist is originally from Rome, but has been living and working in the UK for quite some time. ADK (the meaning of his acronym is a part of his mystic aura so only he knows the true meaning) hails from Qatar. He moved to London for his music career and eventually found his way to Groningen in his search for places where he could live and create. For both Maria and ADK, learning to make a living through music within different communities and cities has positively influenced the evolution of their work.

Maria Chiara Argirò , who started her career as a jazz pianist, constantly experiments with new sounds and genres. Her work is a comprehensive concept, combining visuals, sounds, and melodies, as well as collaborations with other disciplines.

Where Maria Chiara Argirò prefers to build a song from scratch, ADK pours all his creativity and skills into the lyrics and his rap performance. When he hears a beat, he finds a way to uncover it’s story or message. Like Maria, his rap style has evolved, drawing inspiration from the people and music he has encountered throughout his life—ranging from the feel-good hip-hop of Will Smith to the grime rap of London’s underground scene.

In our second episode of Far Out we talked with the two artists about the importance of creating and connecting with other artists and communities. With Far Out we want to dive into different music and art scenes, featuring live sessions, music videos, deep conversations, and personal stories that showcase the creative journeys of our guests. The podcast explores the evolving world of music and culture, highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing today’s artists. It delves into themes like digital innovation, mental health, diversity, inclusion, and the rise of new revenue models and streaming platforms. Far Out is a platform where artists share experiences, exchange ideas, and navigate the rapidly changing landscape of the music industry.

This project is powered and supported by Kunstraad en gemeente Groningen, Poppodium VERA, Stichting Frequenzy and studio Mojo Dojo.
